Stay warm winter camping

5 TIPS TO STAY WARM WHILE CAMPING. For many, the cold weather can be a discouraging factor when it comes to camping. And it is true, there’s nothing worse than a trip ruined by the low temperatures. The good news is that it doesn’t take much to be prepared for dropping temperatures! That’s why we want to share with you 5 simple tips so that you can get a warm good night’s sleep in the wilderness:

1. A little bit of exercise!

If you go to sleep cold, your body will stay with low temperatures during the night. So, exercising for a few minutes before going to bed is an excellent way to keep your body warm for longer. Have a brisk walk or run to the toilet or just do some star jumps to bring your core temperature up a bit before snuggling down for the night.

2. Take a hot water bottle

Take a hot water bottle (and of course a stove and kettle) and place it in your bed 5 to 10 mins before actually getting into the sleeping bag for an instant warm-up when you get in. Once in your sleeping bag, you have a few options, but we think the one that works best is placing the hot water bottle against your belly or crotch.

3. Eat late

Our bodies need energy to generate heat, so a hot meal just before going to bed is just what you’ll need. The bigger the meal, the more calories your body will have to use as energy to regulate body temperature and stay warm. So, get ready to enjoy heavy meals that will leave you feeling satisfied. At night, have snacks handy such as chocolate and cheese to combat dropping temperatures.

4. Don’t get drunk!

We know that a little alcohol can raise your temperature, but don’t get too excited! Although alcohol increases body temperature, after a while it can have the opposite effect for the simple reason that alcohol causes dehydration, which makes you feel cold. So just say no to that extra gulp of whiskey no matter how warm (and fuzzy) it makes you feel.

5. Layer up!

Insulate yourself by wearing as many clothes as possible, especially around your stomach, back, and chest. The more layers you have, the better. Be sure your night clothes are loose-fitting because tight clothing restricts circulation.

May the cold never stop you! Apply these simple tips and say yes to that next winter trip.
